I am writing to ask you, my representative in Dáil Eireann, to ensure that Ireland keeps its promise on overseas aid.
				The economic crisis must not be an excuse for reneging on our foreign policy commitments. In fact, we need the international community to help us get out of the crisis, and we must therefore show our allies that our promises can be relied on.
				We made a promise to spend, by 2015, 0.7% of national income (just 70 cent in every &euro;100) on overseas aid.
				And we made that promise for a reason: to support the international recipe to make poverty history, the eight Millennium Development Goals, designed to halve extreme poverty by 2015.
				Please use your influence to protect Ireland's aid promise. And by doing so, you can help protect the international goodwill towards Ireland.
				Please write to An Taoiseach and the Minister for Foreign Affairs as they prepare for the UN Summit on 20 September. In doing so, please urge them to show true leadership and ask them to mark the Summit by presenting a clear action plan showing how Ireland will move, year on year and step by step, towards spending 0.7% of national income in overseas aid by 2015.
